I am growing tom thumb lettuce in a deep water culture setup with 15 plants floating above a little over 4 gallons of nutrient solution with an air stone. Symptoms of infection first show as round brown spots on basil leaves. The lower leaves turned brown and droopy, and then died and there are brown spots as you can see on the bigger leaves. As these brown spots grow, they become angular blotches.
